Wrong backplate...

Greetings all :)

So, I'm a bit of a newbie at choosing pickups. I'm an electrician, though, and I think I'll have no trouble actually getting the pickups wired in, but now that I've got my pickguard off I've hit a minor snag.

So, I've got this new HSS Mex strat, and picked up a pair of SSL-1's and an SH-6. Little did I know that the backplate for an SH-6 isn't compatible with the pickguard for the HSS strat (2 bolt holes vs 4 bolt holes).

What do I do? Is there a way for me to get my hands on one of the TB-6 backplates? Apparently the TB-6 is the one that fits my pickguard, but I'll have some difficulty returning this SH-6 for an exchange (various reasons).

I guess I could drill new bolt holes, but I'd really rather not.

Thanks for advice!

Re: Wrong backplate...

Hey, welcome. Seymour Duncan won't sell you pickup parts directly (I've asked...). I've run into the same snag as you with an HSS Strat. The easiest solution is to drill new holes in the pickguard. 2-hole humbucker mounting is standard anyway...not sure why Fender bothers with those extra screws.

And just so you know, the SH-6 and TB-6 are actually spaced differently, it's not just a question of mounting holes. The TB-6 has trembucker spacing, which means the poles are slightly wider apart than standard humbuckers.

So it wouldn't even work if you tried putting the TB backplate on an SH pickup? (I'm asking)
