This is my Wrongbox lap steel. I built it in about 2 days out of sheer boredom.
Podouk neck/fingerboard, the nut is ebony. Body is a CAO cigar box with a mahogany block.
Here's the kicker, the pickup I made myself. I bought some pickup wire from stewmac and made the bobbin out of purple heart, surrounded by purple heart, and then sandwiched between two pieces of birds eye maple. The nail is not only the saddle, but allows the vibrations of the strings to be transferred to the pickup.
While it shares some similarities with a magnetic pickup, it's more of a transducer/piezo pickup. Sounds friggin' awesome though.
