WTB: baseplate for strat

Re: WTB: baseplate for strat

FWIW long before anyone made and sold baseplates for Strats, I used to make my own.
It's REAL easy, you can take an old hacksaw blade and break or cut it off to size and attach it to the bridge pu.
It works just as good as one you'd buy, really any piece of magnetic steel or iron will work.
If you want to get fancy , you can wrap it in some copper sheilding tape and add a ground wire but I never did, just glued it onto the bottom of the bridge pu with a little bit of clear silicone.

I make mine out of brass and it does make a difference. I would like to try making some out of different materials. The metal doesn't need to be magnetic just conductive.

Re: WTB: baseplate for strat

What I meant was if you make one out of steel it will sound just like one that you buy made out of steel.
I don't know what other metals would sound like, the Tele baseplates are made out of steel, some are copper plated, but they are steel.

I have read some info that Bill Lawrence posted about baseplates made out of different metals, and he discussed the tonal qualities of each different type metal, FWIW you probably could find that info if you do a search on the TDPRI.
