hey guys,

after looking around and trying out a bunch of single coil pickups, i am very curious to try out the MFD 500 pickups from G&L. they are pretty pricey bought directly from G&L and i can't find any used anywhere.

anybody got a set or a bridge model they are looking to unload?

thanks
max

Well, I had a set - but I just stuck them back in my guitar yesterday. If I decide to take them back out, I'll give you a shout.

There's a cat on eBay who sells a lot of G&L parts, his eBay store is http://stores.ebay.com/Rt1-Music

He might have one pop up on there - I think his stuff comes from Tributes, but from what I remember I think they use the same pickups.

cool. and i would love to hear your impressions of those pickups too as i am really curious about that design.

i have been going round and round with the alnicos (including the antiquities) and so far have decided that i liked some cheap-*** hot ceramics the best. unbelievable. they are fairly harsh on the highs so i slapped a twangbanger baseplate on the bridge which chilled that out some and i'm digging it. I started researching around and discovered that Uncle Leo had been way ahead of the curve with the same design idea on the G&L's and i am betting that he was really on to something. as usual.

thanks for the ebay store heads up. i have been watching the bay and so far i have seen very little but i'll keep watching.

cheers

I tried playing with them this past Sunday, and was getting some weird RF interference-type noises with my G&L - I think I picked up a radio station for a few seconds (probably my crappy wiring job) - so I didn't really get to give them a fair shake. I do think they're meatier than normal strat pups so you kind of have to play with the knobs to get vintage-type sounds out of them, but I'm used to hotter pickups so I may not have the best point of reference (I normally use the G&L AlnicoV neck/mid with a hot rails-type bridge).
