Man, I've been so swamped I forgot to get back to you...my luthier fixed the Gimp for $60. I'm picking it up from him Monday.
I'm so busy and you gave me such a sweet deal I figure I'm still ahead even if I just pay out of pocket (and I just don't have time to deal with UPS)--so I'm a happy camper. :beerchug:

I'm so glad to hear this about Gimpy. When Jeff emailed me about what happened, I was even upset about it. You MUST post pics of the work when you get it back. Glad he's in a good home and given a second chance. Look at me, talking about the guitar like it's a dog...LOL. Well, ok then, I'll just add this then, he's housebroken...LOL.

I think the Gimp will turn out nice. My free time is very limited so I think the build will take a very long time, but I'll try to document it and will definitely post pics.
I wanted to stain, clear coat it and transform it into a Gibbo look...but with the break that may not be an option now...maybe I'll paint it white.

UPS decided to finish it and completely busted the headstock off
That poor guitar just doesn't like to travel :laugh2:
Dave, White would look great and was exactly what my intention to refinish in was when I bought it! Even though it's rear routed, just slap a pickguard on it :bigthumb:

The problem was getting it to line up square. the frayed ends didn't want to go together (that's why I ended up taking it to my luthier rather than fixing it myself.) My luthier said "at least $100" initially, but I guess it went together easily for him because he only charged 60 clams! (good stuff)

Yup, that's what I was thinking. Frayed edges like that can really mess with things. Best to sand them enough to get a straight fit, get it glued in place, then fill in where necessary with eboxy and sand that smooth when dry. Once painted over, it's be real hard to see the repair if done right.
That guitar's worth saving in my book. I've never even touched the thing or seen it IRL but it just looks cool and has lots of mojo to it. In fact, I had a headstock incident last weekend on a cheap Strat. Fixed it too. Man, I won't do that again....lol.

IIRC I've got one (maybe two) Fender MIM single coils for neck/mid from '95. I also have the neck and middle pickup from a Music Man Silhouette Special... basically Strat pickups. They're made by DiMarzio and I'm pretty sure that they're the OEM version of a Blue Velvet or similar, with flush polepeices.
If any of that sounds desireable make me a reasonable offer for the lot of them or just a few, your choice.
