WTH does "uninspiring" sound like?

Re: WTH does "uninspiring" sound like?

If you've been fortunate enough to be inspired by every pickup you've tried, then cheers to you! ;)
I don't know it might be just the opposite: I'm not sure I've ever been inspired by any pickup! I either like them or I don't, and back when I had no money to spend on equipment I could make do with anything that transmitted sound to an amp.
There are sounds I love and sound I hate and a lot in between, but I've never thought of any of them as inspiring or uninspiring, just good, bad, great, or terrible.

If you call yourself a musician, but nothing inspires you to make music, what's the point of it all, then? You chose the wrong hobby.

FWIW, I think the statement was "not inspired by any pickup", and not that 'nothing' inspired to make music.

I'd say that "uninspiring" is a tone that doesn't induce you to pinpoint any particular pros or cons. Just a tone that you could work with, but wouldn't especially want to.

When you have tone like that, only way to get it better is rework it radically. You know, the point in tone where you can't tweak it better. You just have to take it apart.

A cool way of saying "I didn't like it and I wouldn't spend my money on it". At least it's that way in the gun world.

Now THAT makes sense to me! Thank you.

That is exactly what I meant. Inspiration, for me, does not come from any pickup. Most of the songs I've written over the years I wrote unplugged, on an acoustic, or without a guitar in my hands at all. I suspect it's maybe the "tweedle tweedle tweedle" guys who might be inspired (or not) by a pickup.

Re: WTH does "uninspiring" sound like?

I keep seeing pickups described as "uninspiring" around the 'net and I have no idea what that is supposed to mean. Thin, weak, shrill, dull, dark, these are the adjectives that make sense.
Is there any consensus on what uninspiring pickups sound like, or is it just a vague way of saying "I don't like it but I'm not articulate enough to explain why"?

Anything that makes me think of Nickelback.
