WWYD?

Hello my Bretheren and fellow toneseekers. I find myself in a wonderful and unique situation.

Ive got a Gibson SG 61're-issue (mahogany/rosewood) and Im building a Les Paul (thick mahogany with 1/4"+ spalted maple cap-gun oil finish) maple neck and rosewood fretboard.

I've got a Duncan Custom, a JBG vintage (89') sh-4 JB and a Nazgul for the bridges and a sh-1n 59', Gibson Classic 57' and a Duncan Custom Hybrid that are for the neck positions.

I know the custom/59' hybrid is meant for bridge postion but i want to be a rebel and put it in the neck. I play METAL...These guitars will be used in modern high gain amplifiers, 5150 to be specific. I do not ever play crystal clean angelic blackface tones. My clean tone is more of a AC/DC-TNT amount of gain...6 cool pickups/2 guitars.....the possibilities
☆☆☆☆☆SO, WHAT WOULD YOU DO?☆☆☆☆☆

Have a cool day, cheers!

Re: WWYD?

Any would work it's just a question of how bright or dark you need it. I'd put the Nazgul and Hybrid in the '61 SG and the old JB or the Custom and 59n in the Les Paul with the maple neck. Well that's what I would try first anyway.

Re: WWYD?

Custom B / 57 Classic n in the LP

Custom Hybrid B / 59 n in the SG

Play anything with the 5150 and those combos.

Right on, thanks for your opinion....seems like a couple of righteous combinations

Thanks for tapping in...the 57' classic is in the SG now (came with) but, yeah, id really like to hear it in the LP.
Side question, probly could be a new thread but, im asking you: similarities / differences between the 57' classic and the 59'n?

Re: WWYD?

The 57 classic is an A2 pickup. Closer to an A2P than a 59, IMO....

My reasoning on the choices was this: The 5150 will "metal up" anything you put through it.

The hybrid/59 for SG is more "classic combo" overall, not as extreme as the the other, but still will have some bite and thump in the SG.
The Custom/57 will be another classic in style, but have both more range between the pickups, and good combo sounds. You might find the middle position there to be really cool. You could go dark dark by going to the neck only.

An alternate combo: In the LP Hybrid neck, Custom bridge. That's a loud mofo of a guitar. That leaves the 59n for the SG, and I'd go JB with that.

Re: WWYD?

I agree with Ace... that 5150 will heavy up any guitar. I have a real '62 LP/SG with PAFs. Plugged into a high gain amp, it sounds metal as anything.

Re: WWYD?

Update: so far ive tried jb/57' classic, custom/57' classic and Nazgul /57' classic in my SG....the Custom is my favorite but ive had the Nazgul in for a day and haven't tweaked the hieght/amp/eq pedals yet.
The Custom will be first in the LP with the 59' or 59'/Custom hybrid...when im done with the gun oil finish
