Ya know what surprises me?

It's how diverse the playing is in this place. Not one of us sounds remotely like each other, yet we all fit together and (I hope) all appreciate what each other does.

As you know, I'm always singing the praises of people in here - but do you feel the same way?

Also, if I know I'm talking to a musician (because I've heard them) then I give far more credence to what they say. I take notice of what they say because they have my respect as a fellow musician. I have to admit that I don't have that same feeling about the gear collectors.

Maybe it's just me that feels that way. Is it?

Re: Ya know what surprises me?

I understand what you mean, hearing what someone's like as a musician does give more credability to what they say.

but honestly i couldnt tell you anything about any amps other than my own, and im not a "specifications nut".

I'd rather play than worry about if i have the right tubes or whatnot in my amp...
actually my amp doesnt have tubes, so i dont have to worry about that anyway :D

Re: Ya know what surprises me?

I am very impressed by the players here.
Before the tips and clips room was set up, I used to post lots of demos of different pickups in the pickup lounge. I demo'd 20-30 pickups or so, with over 100 clips/tunes. That is why I state the equipment that I use. I try to give people an alternative listening option to the tone wizard sound clips.

Re: Ya know what surprises me?

i agree with you lee, so much diversity here. you got the punk players, the blues guys, the jazz cats, ann all in between and yet we all get along(sometimes :D)
it's a great place
i just hope that i have your respect as musicians, cause i certainly do.

The talent in this place amazes me. Especially the young guys. They're going to be way dangerous when they get older.

absolutely!!!

lots of great things going on here...!!!

i have a feeling that if time and space didn't seperate alot of us, there would be some absolutely ROCKIN' BANDS made out of our membership!!!

Re: Ya know what surprises me?

the diversity doesn't surprise me

something that does surprise me, but shouldn't, is what good ears some people have ... some folks make some pretty perceptive comments about things I don't really notice till they point it out ... such as technical issues of compression, distortion in the recording - stuff like that

And that makes it so great to learn, and accomodate needed changes.

On another forum somebody suggested that my pick was kinda too scratchy. I never noticed that before, I mean I did notice it but did not mind it you know. So for some time I tried to correct that, using fingers sometimes, sometimes using thinner picks and all. Now I know my playing has way less pick scratch.

It is scary. A few month's ago I went with a couple I know to hear their son's band in a battle of the band's. Young players, 16 to 18 I'd say and what really surprised me was how all of the bands did their own material. Not one cover song was played by any of those bands. It was great to hear.
