Yamaha BB424X Pickup Question

Greetings!

I just bought a project bass that had been re-wired, had problems, and was abandoned/sold as non-functioning. My plan is to restore the electronics to the original 1V/1T/3way configuration. The Yamaha catalog describes the pickups as "split single" in the neck position and "bar single" in the bridge. I don't know yet if the pickups are functioning normally. The bass arrives tomorrow.

My question for the SD forum: are the Yamaha factory pickups truly single coil, meaning the vol and tone pots should be 250k, or are they some form of hum-cancelling design needing brighter 500k pots? If anyone has a 424X wiring diagram to share, that would be excellent.

Thanks for reading and responding.

Welcome to the forum!

Those are some odd pickups. You might have to wait until you have the bass to see what's going on under the hood.

Re: Yamaha BB424X Pickup Question

That's just their way of saying "big-azz PJ-like pickups"

Pickups don't usually "die", most likely sloppy or old wiring fell apart or a pot is done or even just the output jack is bent and no longer making contact

1v 1t 3way is wired like a basic HH guitar diagram
