Yamaha Pacifica project

Hey guys, I'm in the process of a guitar project. I got my hands on a Pacifica and decided to mod it up. I'm looking to replace the neck with a Charvel So Cal style neck from the production Charvels you can buy. I just don't know if it will fit or if the bolt holes will line up . Since the neck will cost me $500. Any info will help.

Thanks

Re: Yamaha Pacifica project

If you want my opinion, it's not worth dropping a 500$ neck into a pacifica, unless it is one exceptional piece of wood. You would probably be better off going to Warmoth or something, and starting from scratch, with a nice body and decent hardware and electronics. It's going to be more expensive, but I mean, 500$ on a neck is not cheap to start with.

With that said, if you really want to go through with it, the only way to find out if it would be compatible would be to mesure the holes and the neck pocket on your guitar, and compare it from the source you are using to purchase the neck. If it all matches up, you should be good.

Just my 2cents, good luck with your project.

agreed... for that price you could get a bolt kit from carvin, or like phil said do the warmoth thing

Re: Yamaha Pacifica project

+1 warmoth
You can drill the bolt hole yourself for a perfect match.

Re: Yamaha Pacifica project

Well, there are Pacificas for under £200 and Pacificas for over a thousand.

On price grounds, the basic 112 model would be a fine place to begin customising. Unfortunately, the neck and pocket are an unusual width and kinda squared off like a Telecaster rather than rounded like a Stratocaster. In plain language, the majority of off-the-shelf replacement necks will not fit without modification.

On the other hand, upgrading the tuners, vibrato, pickups and pots is easy and fun.

Re: Yamaha Pacifica project

ye i'd replace the pickups caps pots etc before paying $500 for a neck!! look on ebay for good replacment bodies to go with your $500 neck or like the guys have said get a warmoth built to your specs!

Re: Yamaha Pacifica project

A USA Charvel neck is 1/16" too wide at the heel to fit a standard Fender Spec neck pocket. Yamaha Pacificas have Fender Spec neck pockets.

That said, who in their right mind asks 500$ for a SoCal neck and can I have some of whate they´re smoking???

You can get a real Vintage San Dimas neck for that any day of the week.... Cripes you can get a whole Charvel telecaster which has the same neck as the SoCals for 650bucks brand spanking new with warranty.

I would never drop $500 on a neck... Any neck... Never ever... How can you possibly justify that cost. Can buy an Agile Les Paul for $400 - and not have to mod anything these days... The good people in China and Korea hook us up. I like using the benefits of living in the developed world, and weilding the all mighty dollar in my hand, while it is still "almighty".

You could buy an agile strat for $450 dollars which comes with seymour duncan pickups, wilkinson bridge, and locking tuners.

I do have a charvel 475 deluxe. It's a good guitar. But i payed $400 for it, and would never pay more than that.
The neck is very good, but too much fretwear on mine, unfortunately.

Re: Yamaha Pacifica project

a long time ago i stopped pieceing guitars together unless all the parts are made to fit each other... I've made some huge mistakes in the past from not doing my homework...

just of note.... the real higher priced Yamaha Pacificas had Warmoth necks on them... they were quality axes... i'd rock one of those stock no issues... even some of the mid priced Pac's are quite good guitars stock....

Sorry, Z, but the original style Pac112 with all three pickups mounted through the pickguard has a squared off end to its neck pocket. Yes, of course, a Stratocaster style neck will go in but there will be a gap in the corners of the pocket that the pickguard fails to cover.

Re: Yamaha Pacifica project

I would put a $125 Carvin neck on that $300 guitar, before I put a $500 neck on it.

Yep, a Fender Tele spec neck pocket, which is still only 2 3/16" wide and thereby still 1/16" to slim for a USA Charvel neck. I should have clarified that, though it really makes no difference in this case.

The squared end is merley an additional reason not to do it ;)
