Yamaha Pacifica?

Well I am a little late on posting this since I have already made my first payment on the guitar, but I still wouldn't mind people's opinions.

I am buying a Used Yamaha Pacifica USA1. It's kinda of a "tele" style body. Violion Burst.
It is al alder body w/ maple top. The neck is Bird's Eye Maple with Rosewood fretboard. Both the body and neck are by Warmoth. It has a Wilkinson vintage-style trem. It is tight against the body the way I like it. It is set up for some nice vibrato and w/out a lot of play in the tremelo. The tuners are Sperzel Tremlok locking tuners.
The stock pups, SD's, have been replaced with EMG's. The single coils are Alnico SA's. I am pretty certain. The Bridge is a 89, and is coil tapped.
It has single vol/tone controls and a 5 way selection switch.

Personally I love the feel of the guitar. The action was very nice. Perfect to my hands. The neck size was very nice. Pretty thin in comparison to what I am use to playing, but I don't guess quite as thin as say my Ibanez RG.

I tried to give you guyse everything I know about the guitar so I could get as much of an informed opinion as possible.

I am paying $650. Is this a good deal? What do you guys think about these guitars?

This is my first post btw...

I am including a link to Yamaha's website that has the specifications for this model.

Re: Yamaha Pacifica?

Its a Warmoth body and neck, with EMG pups? Which part was a Yamaha Pacifica? :D

btw - Welcome to the forum. I'm just pokin' fun. ;)

Re: Yamaha Pacifica?

Pacificas are, IMO, very underrated strat/tele copies... good bang for the buck... If you liked the feeling of the one you tried, I say you were right to go for it... The one in the link looks very nice too.

Oh, welcome to the forum by the way. :)

Re: Yamaha Pacifica?

Ive played a couple of other pacificas, mainly some mate's lower end ones but they are definately great value. If that trend is something to go by that guitar should be smokin. Anyways, it sounds well equipped, if it feels good then it sounds like you have a keeper:)

Re: Yamaha Pacifica?

Its definitely a cool axe. Should be killer. Especially with those parts.

Re: Yamaha Pacifica?

The Pacifica series were designed by the same people that put Ibanez on the map in the mid 80's.

Re: Yamaha Pacifica?

I have an older Pacifica 712 strat (?). It's one of the high end ones. I got it for 175 in a pawn shop, dropped a PAF Pro in it (Sorry Seymore!) and set it up. Killer feel, awesome sound.

Re: Yamaha Pacifica?

One friend of mine had a Fat strat copy, and another had a Floyd-ed, Super strat copy, and both were extremely kick ass.

Re: Yamaha Pacifica?

Yup, my main guitar for years has been a heavily modded Pacifica 112L.When a lefty 912J popped up in a local auction I jumped on it. I love these guitars (especially when you play out with em, and get looks of "oh, you're playing a Yamaha, so you're probably a complete amateur"..I bet it's not just Auckland, NZ that this happens in!). The neck on my 912J is a Warmoth, and, it's a lot slimmer than I usually favour (the 112L is pretty chunky and nice), but, the fretboard and feel are great. Enjoy your PAC USA1, bro!

Re: Yamaha Pacifica?

The neck on my 712 is really thin & wide. Very different than my LP baseball bats. But it has an amazing feel. I love. I'll also be selling it on ebay eventually. As good as it is it isn't an LP - I've got to stay focussed and only buy guitars I'll actually play!

Re: Yamaha Pacifica?

I've heard nothing but good things about those guitars. Should be a good one, though I have no clue about what they're worth.

Re: Yamaha Pacifica?

The Pacifica USA's were exceptional guitars. A local shop here where I live had one for a while. Very well made, with top notch electronics & hardware - Wilkinson/Duncan/Sperzel and yes, Yamaha used Warmoth to make the bodies and necks for many higher end Pacifica models. They're actually still sought after, especially these USA models. They don't go cheap when they come up for auction on E Bay. $650 is a good price.

Re: Yamaha Pacifica?

Cool... Thanks for all the responses. I had the choice between the Yamaha and an American Tele and I went with the Yamaha. The Tele was the same price, but I just couldn't get away from ho well the Pacifica played. A few more weeks of payments and I will have it.

Is it proper to post pics after purchasing new gear? lol
