Yet another P-Rails Clip

Due to popular demand for a clip of the P-rails played without the slide (like I did here), I put one together. This time I put the P-Rails into my Japanese Vantage and wired it up for P90, Rail, Series on the bridge and P90, Rail, Parallel on the neck.

The playing is a bit repetitive, but it highlights the difference between the settings. I played it into a Fender Champ set to show how the different outputs drive the amp differently. The rails are quite clean and the series HB likes to get dirty. Here it is.

Is it just me or does your bridge position sound surprisingly dark? I left my headphones at home today so maybe I'm just not hearing it right.

Edit: never mind, it was my speakers.

That's awful cool of you. Thanks!!:)

I think I like the way the P-90 sounds the best.

Well, I kinda thought the neck position sounded a little brighter than normal. However, my ears have been acting a little weird lately.

Thanks for your feedback. Glad I could help in the search for good tone.

I usually go for the P90s too, I really like playing lead on the bridge and the rhythm in the middle position.

As for the bright sounding neck pickup, I hate muddy neck pups so I usually disconnect the tone control altogether, like I did on this guitar. I find it darkens the tone even if the tone knob is all the way up. Taking it out of the circuit brightens the neck pickup and makes my rhythm sound clearer.

Re: Yet another P-Rails Clip

I just dropped a pair of P-Rails into a mahogany-bodied ES-335-style guitar and I'm absolutely blown away by the sound of these pickups. No matter where you set them, they sound great. The P-90 tones are huge, the humbucking tones are great, and even though I've never been a fan of single-coil sounds, I find them to be extremely usable. Overall, I'm very impressed and glad I installed them. You just can't beat the sheer number of available sounds from a single set of pickups.
