This is not the review of the pedal.....yet.

With regard to putting nickel covers on and microphonics. I am using your technique of a piece of masking tape or electrical tape over the slug coils, clamping the cover on and then soldering. Problem is, I'm still getting squeel.

I know I can pot them in some parafin wax...the wife has some. The question is do I need to bother taking the cover off to take the tape out, or just drop the thing in the wax and wait for the bubbles to stop?

Jeff....I don't use un-potted pickups and microphonics aren't a problem for me.If you are using that method on an unpotted pickup,then someone else will have to chime in for you on how to fix the problem...Are you absolutely sure you have the cover down all the way?

I normally pot the pickup first and then put the cover on once the wax dries..

Try blasting the thing with a hairdryer for 5-10 minutes, it can't hurt to try. That's all I ever have to do when I swap magnets.

Hi Jeff,

I would remove the tape before wax-potting your pick-ups... Since you're getting some squeal, which is due to vibrations, potting with the tape on would leave some small volume not filled with parafin in there (in and around the tape) hence, still allowing vibrations to appear... It'll be more trouble but worth it to remove everything once more... sorry...

If some more knowledgeable members feel like I'm wrong please correct me...

Yep, got the covers clamped down as tight as I can get them. I'll take them apart this weekend, remove the covers and tape, then put the covers back on and pot them. The 59 I got from wattage, just added a cover I have laying around. I know those coils were potted, but there is no extra wax to just heat up for the cover. That one will have to get dipped with the cover.

The pup I got from UGD, not sure if the coils were potted or not...my guess is not. I know we just clamped the covers on and soldered that one. I may just have this one re-wound into something else....it squeels like a stuck pig.

Hmmm.....Sorry to hear you're having problems....I just put a piece of masking tape across the slug coils,clamp the cover down,and retack both sides with solder...That's it..No microphonics,in fact that's exactly how I just redid my 59N after taking the cover back off the PGN...Weird? :smack: I think Lew does it the same way?

yeah man, just take off the tape pop on the cover, solder it on a give it a good ol' wax bath and you should be set with NO noise problems. i just recently did a solid chrome cover on an f-spaced custom custom on the guitar below and just pushed on the cover as far as i could, soldered it, and dunked it in wax and she's all good now, no hum or unwanted noise. it looks killer IMO with no showing poles...kinda like an EMG with class hehe
