I got bored, so I figured I would play with the crunch on my Mesa Trident. I hope you like it. I just randomly plopped a mic in front of the amp and it turned out pretty well. There was no editing except for levels, some panning, some cuts to make it start at the right time, and a fade out. No plugins were used.

It's just the Mesa and an MXR 10 Band EQ plugged in to my 2x12 cab with Jensen Neo 12's in it.

The guitar used was an Ibanez S5470 with a PATB-2 in the bridge, a Vintage Rails in the middle, and a PATB-1n in the neck.

Rhythm was done with the bridge (one track in series, one in parallel). Leads were done with the Neck/Middle position.

the rhythm sounds very very dry, and not in mixing terminology. there are some types of overdrive that sound liquidy and fluid, this sounds really crispy and dry.

Your playing's pretty tasty, but I'm not entirely sure I like the tone...it's also kinda harsh in the high end, both on rhythm and lead, but the lead tone is definitely nicer sounding. My guess is because of the neck pickup.

Funny you should say that. I actually EQ my crunch channels to be crisp and dry. I feel it gives crunch more of a punch than an fluid sound.

I do the exact opposite with my overdrive to give things a thicker contrast and to give a fuller sound to parts.

It's always been my personal taste.

And as for the harshness, I found out that my volume pot wasn't wired correctly so that's full volume output.

ah fair enough, well obviously you recorded it really well, cuz that comes through crystal clear!

Just not really my taste, y'know?

i like the first one - not so bright as number 2.

Re: You might like this! (Mesa Stiletto Trident Goodness!)

I kind of like the dry sound. Could be a bit thicker on rhythm.
More warmth on the leads would give more singing sustain, without increase in gain.

Great playing.

Yeah. I don't get much sustain on an Ibanez S, anyway. They aren't exactly built for it.
