hey guys... i really need help, im stuck in getting new pickups for my guitar. I've got a reasonable guitar an epi les paul for a first guitar.. and for an amp ive got a marshall tube amp the jtm30. I think my pickups arent very flashy so i need to get new ones. Guys jsut list what pickups are your favourite and which sound they give and which position they are in. Thanks alot
Im thinking along the lines of Seymour Duncan and Dimarzios. I mgiht be going PEarly gates or 59' in the neck position and maybe a Dimarzios of some sort. I dont want a really full on metal sound for my bridge but i want one taht gives a nice crunch. A nice rock sound.

For all around great tone and versatility the 59b and 59n are hard to beat..
I also like a pair of PGs pickups or a bridge 59 with a PGN..

If you need a bit more oomph in the bridge, you might consider the C5 and you can still use the 59N pickup..

If you want all out vintage PAF type tone then go with either the Antiquities or a pair of Seths...

My styles and choices are based on blues and classic rock tones in a les paul..

Have you tried the Pearly Gates before... cuz i've heard its quite nice and it gives a nice clean tone but also nice lead. I've heard tge dimarzio super distortions are nice, do you know about them?. I listened to teh Custom Custom and i thought that was alright

Re: Your FAVOURITE pickups

i have a set of 59's in my bluesbird and i think they are great. if you want a more high output bridge for some more sizzle in the lead position then you might try the Custom 5 i hear it is a great match with the 59 since it has the same kind of magnets and they are both PAF style humbuckers

Yes I agree....People call the C5,A 59 on "steroids" and this is a good way to explain it really...Both are great but the 59 articulates better..

Re: Your FAVOURITE pickups

I've put new humbuckers in two Epi Les Pauls and both turned out great.

I used the 59N & JB in one and the Jazz N & JB in the other.

I prefered the clearer, less bassy tone of the Jazz N...and don't let the Jazz handle scare you: the Jazz N can ROCK!

I agree with Lew! JB/Jazz rocks!

Re: Your FAVOURITE pickups

PG set in a Lester is the mutt's nuts! I really like them. They have a nice airy feel to them that I couldn't get out of 59's.

Re: Your FAVOURITE pickups

Duncan Custom Bridge, JB Neck. With splitting going on you can get everything from the Custom´s "You Got a Problem?" Attitude and thump, Strat-like clean tones, and unbelievably smooth clean or high gain tones. :smoker:

Re: Your FAVOURITE pickups

My favorites are SD JB, Dimarzio PafPro, Peavey Wolfgang, and PRS Dragon I.

Re: Your FAVOURITE pickups

All are great choices. Tell us more on what you are looking for, a good rock tone is sorta vague. Duaney had a great rock tone, where as Clapton on Cream did too! See? Tell us more, so that you can start with a more refined educated guess.

Re: Your FAVOURITE pickups

I'm all about the Jazz/Jazz combo in Les Pauls.....but I think I'm the only one...lol

Re: Your FAVOURITE pickups

guys how abt a seymour and dimazio combination.. is that stupid
i was thinking a 59's in the neck and a dimazio super distortion in the bridge

Re: Your FAVOURITE pickups

JB bridge sounds awesome for heaps of different styles.

And id go a JB/Jazz combo just because its supposed to be the best combo around for humbuckers, according to mr seymour anyway :D

Re: Your FAVOURITE pickups

JB/APHII Neck in my Studio
59b / APHIIN in my custom.

The Custom is a tad more versitile with less crunch. The Studio with the JB bridge is balls to the wall. Blueses nicely, but through the driven marshall, great rock tone. More gain, crunchy as you want. Never been fond of Di Marzio

Right! Everyone has suggested some great choices (tho using the JB as a neck pickup would be a little over the top for me!) but if you want Seymour's advice, the Jazz/JB combo is supposedly his favorite. It certainly has worked beautifully in the four guitars I've either owned or used that had that combo! Lew

Jazz neck never floated my boat for some reason. Course I only tried it in my semi hollow Sammy Hagar Washburn, but didn't cotton to it at all. APHII and 59 for me. Must admit I'm really digging my PRS Dragon II neck the most. Could be the guitar too.
