Your opinions on the Vox AC15

how do you think the new AC15 compares agasint, say a Fender Deluxe Reverb? What has better tone or difference in tone? Is the reverb/tremolo on the Vox better then the reverb/vibrato on the Fender?

I see the vox only has one speaker, how will that limit me?

Never compared them... but you can't go wrong with both amps.

I love the new AC-15s.

Re: Your opinions on the Vox AC15

I can't speak for the AC15, but I have an AC30 and can tell you my Fender Super's tremolo blows away the AC30's; no comparison. My AC30 doesn't have reverb, but it's difficult to touch Fender amps for reverb.

As for tone, they're different beasts. I like them both for different reasons. Fender's tone is more jangly, great for blues and country. I prefer the Vox for rock & roll stuff (what Skarekrough might call "Geezer Rock"). I like the Vox's natural breakup better when dimed, but the Fender takes to pedals better. They're apples 'n' oranges.

What are you looking for? What's your goal?

I've got an AC30CC. Totally apples and oranges when it comes to the tone and feel of the thing. I prefer the AC30, but thats just my personal taste.

I'm talking about the Fender Deluxe Reverb, not the super.

And I'm using tons of effect pedals, and I need clean mainly but in some situations, I'd use an overdrive or attenuater for "mid-gainy" rockabilly kind of sound. Something like the Band on the Last Waltz DVD, if your familliar...

I might soon purchase a Mesa V-Twin for some of the liquid high gain sounds in soloing....

Maybe recommend me some songs to listen that best represent either amp.

Understood about the Deluxe; I just wanted to give you my Fender vs. Vox experience and make it clear I was comparing an AC30 and Fender Super, so they're not exactly the same as what you're comparing, but they're similar.

For your needs, I honestly don't think you can go wrong with the Vox or the Fender. As for songs that represent these amps' tones:

  • The classic Vox tone is all over early Beatles tracks. The Edge uses a Vox with tasty compression to get his base tone. Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead use Voxes for their clean tones, so you may want to listen to The Bends for some good examples.
  • Fenders are everywhere, and their applications are more varied. I'm not sure which artists or which tunes use a Deluxe specifically, and a lot of the time what you're hearing is that amp in combination with a pedal or three.

Re: Your opinions on the Vox AC15

It's been to long since I played a real one but if Vox's own model of it in the Valvetronix amps is anywhere near what the actual AC15 sounds like, then my opinion is that is kicks ass.

Re: Your opinions on the Vox AC15

My friend has an AC15, a pretty cool amp but definitely not high gain, lol...anyway it can get super bright...like chop your head off on the clean channel so you've got to watch out for that since it has a single EQ.

Vox ACs definitely get bright, but that's one of the things I love about them. My favorite axe to play into it is a Tele, too. Yeah, it's super-bright...just how I like things (sometimes). All you in the first five rows, WATCH OUT!
