Hey Guys,
Just ordered a Custom 5/ Jazz set for a PRS McCarty. My main style is modern rock. Would like some feedback from people who use the custom 5? How do you like it? What are your experiences with it for modern rock music? Thanks in advance!

Now you're asking??? AFTER you've ordered it??? :laugh2:

You'll find out soon...then you can tell us.:laugh2:

OK, I'll bite: it'll probably sound...hmmm...what's the right words? Very Good!:laugh2:

I liked the C5 in my Hamer Studio Arch Top...similar double cutaway Les Paulish design to your guitar.

I liked it best with the amp cranked up loud...played quietly to moderate, I wished it had more mids.

Thanks lew. I went ahead and ordered it because I'd figured I'd give it a shot and with the 21 day return policy if it doesnt work out I can try another model! I've heard of a couple of PRS guys who really liked it in their guitars. Anybody with any more feedback on your experiences with nthe custom 5 would be appreciated!

The thing with double cutaway guitars like yours and the Hamer I mentioned is that the neck is longer and more flexable than with single cutaway guitars like a Les Paul Standard. This makes for a guitar with a little less bass and lower midrange whomp than would be present in a single cutaway guitar with a shorter stiffer neck.

I felt like my C5 sounded killer when I played with a loud overdriven tone through my Marshall or '59 Bassman...but that it sounded a little bright and lacking in mids when I played at modest volumes.

But it always sounded at least "very good", and sometimes "great".

My opinion of the C5 is, that it really needs to be put into a dark sounding guitar to make it special. Not that it sounds bad in other guitars.

I didn't find the C5 to my liking in my Cu22. The treble was way too biting and the lack of mids made it worse. Its OK I guess for a scooped rhythm tone maybe but I found that single notes / solos seemed to disappear without the mids there to support them

It could use some more mids but I've gotten some phenomenal modern rock tones from the C5. It has a rude character and a lovely growl under gain! Cleans are good too. It's very versatile.
I thought the Lead tones were ok with it but you need to get something to boost the mids on your amp to make it work easier in a band mix.

The only reason it's not in my Epi LP (my main guitar actually) anymore is because the Brobucker replaced it! (custom shop humbucker)

Good luck with the C5 and tell us how you like it! OR even better, post some clips!
