Hey forum brothers, it's been a long time since I've posted here. Hope everyone is well.

I was in a music store yesturday way over town I'd never been to before. They had in stock every Z Vex pedal made. I had never heard of them until then. Man these things are cool! Very pricey though. Does anyone hear own one of these pedals by chance? I'm interested in this particular model...

the super hard on!!

My current rig is my japaneese '57 reissue w/ stock pickups (for now!) into a stock tubescreamer 808, into my classic 30 w/ a 2x12 cab loaded with a celestion g12h and a jensen c12n. I love my tone! Though sometimes I like to really get it on and the 808 alone just doesn't do it. I played through this pedal and it ROCKS! Though, it's around 200 bucks.

Just thought I'd see if there were any Z Vex users. Check out that site, I mean some of these pedal are just nuts! Check out that sequencing auto wah. This thing was crazy sounding never heard anything like it, but if i remember correctly it was somewhere in the ballpark of $350!

One of the first dealers to carry the full line of ZVEX stuff was here in Atlanta...I got real lucky and had some of the early stuff...a Super Hard On, a Fuzz Factory, and a Seek Wah...the other guy I played guitar with at the time also had a very early Fuzz Probe. All my stuff was early and low serial numbers...got hard up for cash and sold it all but it's very nice stuff...if you want what it does!

I think Zachary Vex is the greatest pioneer in FX since Bob Moog. He doesn't just reverse engineer classics, he creates new sounds......and eventually his pedals will be highly sought after. They just seem a bit too expensive for pedals that are simple Hammond boxes with cool paint jobs. If they were a little bit cheaper, they'd sell a ton of them. For that reason, they also offer non handpainted versions.

The coolest pedals I've ever messed with are the Probe pedals with the theramin plate. You change the effect by hovering your foot over the plate.
I got a chance to meet Zachary and play all his pedals at the Amp Show, and he gave me a nice compliment, saying "you're one of those players that GETS my pedals, since you play all the right stuff on each one." Pretty cool compliment, coming from one of the greatest FX makers of our time.

I've got a seek trem that I like. I bougtht it used. It's not in mint shape cosmetically, but its a fun toy nonetheless. I agree with Joe that the early hand painted ones are going to be worth something some day. That's why i won't sell mine even though I don't use it too often.

Not only that, but Zach also makes appearances at diystompboxes.com and helps out from time to time. Analog Mike also posts periodically. Both those guys get major respect from me for that!

Cool, thanks for the input.

I think those pedals with the theramin plate are cool, but who would want to use one? I couldn't imagine standing on one foot for an entire song even, haha. And the guy at the store put in that probe fuzz and it sounded HORRIBLE. Maybe there was something wrong with that one, becuase it had a really really bad squeeling noise.

I'd like to get the SHO, but I jsut don't understand why it's so expensive. What really seperates it from a beefed up boost pedal like an mxr micro amp?

The squeeling noise is the theramin.

It's different and unique. Sometimes it can sound bad, but if you actually mess around with it and learn to control it, you could actually make some really neat stuff with it.

The bottom line with most all ZVEX stuff is that it is real easy to dial in some real crappy sounds...that part is easy, it's spending turning all the knobs and trying all the different "settings" until you get the good sounds!

I finally got to try a fuzz factory, twisting a knob 1cm will completely change the sound. Not just a bit, but a completely new fuzz. It was an insane pedal. Luckily I read settings from their website before I tried it and found some very nice tones.

okay where to start, well you already know that the effects look and sound cool. they are built really well too, but to answer your question, plug a micro amp in and listen to it, it will really color the sound of your guitar. Plug in a sho and listen to it, it won't color the sound nearly as much and if you use just a little bit of power you get a very slight extra sparkle to your sound. I know the sho will also push your amp harder than an mxr pedal.

I love mine and use it all the time. great pedal with virtually no added sound, just your guitar but louder.
