Zakk Wylde Strings

i liked the idea of these strings, i tried the 10's which got 10, 13, 17,36, 52, and 60. i normally play regular 10's so the D string was the size of my usual A string. well to make a story short i didn't think things through with my guitar. it has a blocked floyd rose, sowhen i was done tuning i looked and my bridge was at a 45 degree angle, so basically i wasted 7 bucks on strings i couldn't use becase there was too much tention oh well, i guess u like and you learn :smack:

You're kidding right? Just go around to the back of your guitar and tighten the springs until the vibrato is back in its right place again!

You'll have to retune and readjust...retune and readjust...retune and readjust... until it's right, because tightening those springs will pull your tuning way, WAY SHARP...could even break a string unless you're mindful. (just like pulling way up on the vibrato bar would do....)

When you're done with that you will have to reset your intonation by moving at least your D, A and E string bridge saddles back a bit...

Really? Naw! Come on man...learn a little about maintaining and setting up your ax.

It's not such a big deal...it's easier than playing the darn thing.

Don't you know "Distortion strings" are the best kind? Well they get all rusted and cruddy they sound AWESOME like RUSTED METAL!! That's how all the metal guys get their crunchy tone.

Not to mention some truss rod adjustments. A 60 is HUGE.

I put the strings on a guitar and didn't know they were quite so big. The lowest 3 strings are huge. Make your hands strong. They were a little thick though.

i used to use 10-60's on a les paul, the bottom string was bigger than my bass player's top string. don't ask why, but it took me a while to get pinch harmonics down pat on those huge strings. i've heard horror stories of ghs boomers eating through frets, especially if the guitar rests in a snug-fitting case. has anyone ever heard of that?

Guitars with Floyds are especially sensitive creatures and require special care and feeding... and staying with a specific tuning and string guage is part of that regimen. If you change the guitars strings to that kind of guage you're going to HAVE to make adjustments to the springs, action, truss rod etc. It requires patience.

I would recommend picking up a good thourough book on guitar maintenance and tech info that has some procedures described in it regarding tremolo adjustments for string guages.

If you're gonna put new rims and tires on the car you're gonna hafta make some suspension adjustments. Perfectly normal, perfectly healthy. Even non-trem guitars need adjustements for stuff like this (truss rod, bridge height, etc)

I had the Zack Wylde light strings on my Les Paul Custom (the 10's, not 11's). Be prepared to do some truss rod adjustments, as those heavy strings have alot of tension. The top strings were fine. The lower strings, due to the tension, were very tight and percussine, perfect for fast rhythem, but I couldn't get pinch harmonics out of them compared to a set of 9-42

For those reasons, im put off floyds!!! I'll stick with my nice and simpler fixed bridges. I will be saying something different in the future im sure

I've never tried the ZW sets, but I use a set of GHS Boomers 11-56 (wound 3rd) on my Strat. Huge tone, but I only use it for D standard and drop C tuning, where it really helped with string tension.

When I had the nut cut for those strings, the guitar tech said he kept using it for slide until I came and picked it up. He loves the girth and tension those strings gave for that stuff.

yep. WITH a floyd. you gotta block the trem with em though, if you have one. they sound really good, i like the wound strings the best. really tight, great on an LP! your hands will need to adjust to the tension, though.

I've used the ZW boomers, and like them for the most part. My only problem isn't the 60 ga E, but the 52 A. With the 11-70 set, the 52 is cool for A, but with the 10-60 set, its too close in size to the 60, especially if you're tuned REALLY low (52 is really tight, 60 is a lot floppier).

I've never had any problems with Boomers eating frets. Dean Markley Blue Steels, on the other hand....
