Which mid priced do everything amp is the best?

    1.Mesa Mark IV
    2.Marshall JVM
    3.Hughes and Kettner Switchblade
    4.Peavey JSX
    5.Carvin V3

Obviously most of these are more rock oriented, but the idea is a multichannel amp that can get away with alot of different sounds. I'm adding a couple down here as honorable mentions, because they aren't exactly supposed to be versatile, but I'm wondering about them too.

    6.Marshall DSL
    7.Marshall VM

        Marshall VintageModern !

. . . heard some clips from a CD that came w. GUITARIST mag. and i love all the tones !!!

IMHO, that amp can go from 60's style classic rock to modern AC/DC and wayyyy beyound !

I played thru the Vintage modern and I have played thru a DSL. If I had to go with either of those 2 I would go with the VM. Those are the only amps I have played thru in the list, but I would not consider these mid priced. The VM 50W head is going for $1400 + the mathcing cab is another $1000. Thats a pretty high priced amp IMHO. The DSL is no bargain either. They go new for about $1200 and then again you need a cab.

That's the first amp I think of when I think 'do everything' (both the roadster and the roadking). Or maybe the Blue Angel which was it's predecessor if i'm not mistaken.

Of this list, Mark IV vote here. I think the Road King eclipses the Mark IV. I've got both - if Mesa could ever figure out how to add the Mark IV lead channel to the Road King............
