i am planning on buying a fuzz pedal. i havent had one in a few years. all i ever used before were fuzz faces. which i like but i think there is better out there. i will be using it for everything from hendrix type tone to a more fuzzed out tone. i dont want to spend alot. i would rather stay in the price range of a new fuzz face. which one would you guys suggest?

Re: which fuzz pedal
The Duncan isn't a bad fuzz, it's basically a Fuzz Face with 6 input caps. It's very refined and tame sounding. Unlike most Fuzz Faces, it works with humbuckers for me. For something more authentic to the Hendrix tone, check out either the Analogman Fuzzes or the new Dunlop Hendrix Fuzz Face (The blue one, in the round casing, it's been redesigned by the owner of Way Huge, it uses vintage style transistors.)
The Huckleberry may also be a good option, it's a fuzz face with a big muff style tone stack so it's got a little different flair to it. Also, try a Big Muff. If you like it, there is a world of affordable clones that are way better than the current EHX offering. (Same basic flavor, though)

Re: which fuzz pedal
would any of the pedals anyone mentioned work for a david gilmour type tone. i dont want to copy it i just play some pink floyd stuff and the distortion on my amp is way too heavy.Last edited by man-in-moon; 05-14-2007, 04:15 PM.

Re: which fuzz pedal
drop the cash on a zvex fuzz factory, it can do hendrix and lots more
and if you decide you don't like it you can sell it for nearly the same price you bought it, or trade it for a 3 fuzzes you do like.Gibson, Epiphone, and Seagull Guitars
Seymour Duncan and Gibson Pick-Ups
Laney, Tech 21 Amps
Avatar cabs with celestion and eminance speakers
Line 6 Floor Spaceships
Whatever strings I can find

Re: which fuzz pedal
The Big Muff Pi is pretty cool. For single-note lines, it sounds awesome. But with palm-muted chords, I feel the bass rumbles a little too much. Alternately, the RAT/Keeley mod sounds awesome for saxaphone-like single-note lines, strumming full-voiced chords, and palm-muted rhythms. The RAT is not exactly a fuzz, but it produces really cool overtones, so there is a subtle hint of octave tones which pop out every once in a while.Turn me on, Dead Man.

Re: which fuzz pedal
thanks for the replies. all of them seem like good pedals. i have had a few big muffs over the years. they always seemed to get real muddy on me. i have it narrowed down to 3.
diaz texas square face.
keeley fuzz head. the clips sound good plus i like how you can swap parts out.
Bixonic Expandora . not really a fuzz but still sounds pretty good.
besides the whammy pedal i owned i have never spent this much on a pedal. so i am trying to make sure it will be one i will use a good bit.
