Will I regret Selling my Mark IV?

Re: Will I regret Selling my Mark IV?

I have a Mesa/Boogie...

I know exactly what you're saying and how this happened. This was my solution:

I bought a 15 Watt Gibson Goldtone. I got it cheap. I love it. I love the Mesa too.

I found the Goldtone at a garage sale. It's 3 knobs and 1switch make me set and forget. I don't think I would be happy on a gig with only this amp, though, even if it sounds like freakin clean liquid.

The Mesa always sounds great on gigs (as you said) because we can pump them a little harder. Also, their versatility helps on gigs for rooms that are a bit challenging.

I'm thinking just getting a second amp for the smaller performances might be the ticket. I would think a 5E3 combo into a 212 extension cab would probably be able to throw enough sound to fill a small club, just so long as clean headroom isn't the issue. Then of course the Mark IV would have to get the nod.
Thanks everyone, and sorry for starting a hailstorm of misunderstanding.
I think just saving for a second amp will be a win win situation.

Re: Will I regret Selling my Mark IV?

The amp you're getting is a beautiful fat clean tone with a Voxy breakup. If you love that sound, fine. If you're used to gain channels, you'll miss the Mesa.

However, if you spend a bit of cash and buy an OD pedal that melds into the sound of the Ceriatone, you'll probably even get some gain tones that beat the Mesa, just because of the fatness of the base tone.

Re: Will I regret Selling my Mark IV?

I'm not a Mesa fan but it's a mistake to let that baby go [unless you sell it to me cheap :naughty:] Although I have not played the DC30 from Ceriatone I did play the Matchless and another DC30 clone. It's a fantastic amp!

U can't get the kind of gain u get with a Mesa but the Matchless has such a great sound u might not miss it! Ceriatone has a tremendous reputation however it may take several weeks or a couple of months to receive one! Matchless amps are among my favorites. Ceriatone has Overtone Special which is their own amp design. That is something u need to check into.

Re: Will I regret Selling my Mark IV?

...what if you put it this way. imagine you sell the amp to a friend who you see very often. you hear play very often. AND who would never pass up the oppurtunity to brag up the amp and how it sounds whenever he see you....so. that helped me not mistake a bad trade once. im not saying its a bad trade....im just saying think about it like that. imagine your best friend bangin your ex. would you be cool with it?

...if so, then go for it!!

OH GJ, you had to go and say that didn't you? That's the exact reason I posted this in the first place. I'm more of a clean with light breakup player anyways. I rarely use high gain, and certainly nothing I couldn't get from high quality pedals. But i think I would be better served adding the DC30 Clone instead of trading for it.

Re: Will I regret Selling my Mark IV?

Sell it now, if you're going to. Mesa is discontinuing the MKIV this summer, and it's quite likely that it'll be replaced by a MKV, in which case the price of a MKIV on the used market will drop like crazy.

It could also increase depending on what happens with the V. IMO.... OTOH I hope you are right so I can afford get myself a backup or rackmount unit.

Re: Will I regret Selling my Mark IV?

Of course it could be one of those things where if the MarkV sucks people will be regarding the Mark IV as a classic and demand a fortune due to it's out of production status.

The MarkIV is gonna be a tough act to follow. I think Mesa is gonna have to do a whole lot better than "just not sucks". :)
