Why Did You Buy Your Amp?

Re: Why Did You Buy Your Amp?

Because it looked pretty, what other reason is there to buy anything

Re: Why Did You Buy Your Amp?

My first amp was a keyboard amp. I decided I needed a guitar one. So my first one was a Fender Performer 650. I got that because I preferred the price tag on it compared to a Fender Twin (I could of had that Twin for 600 dollars, in working order. I think cosmetics was the reason the guy was selling it for so low)

I regret to this day.

My current practice amp is a VOX Pathfinder 10. Simply because I wanted a cheap amp. My next one, VOX VBM1 (15w) was bought because I loved the Pathfinder one so much I though, man, maybe they're all like this? It is also a wonderful amp.

Re: Why Did You Buy Your Amp?

I got my VOX AD15VT for several reasons

- It sounded great
- It sounded great the appropriate volume for my apartment living and mic'd gigging
- It's versatile - can do clean to dirty, scooped Fendery to middy Marshally, compressed to reverb'd
- It's small - I can carry my gear bag, my guitar, and my amp to the car in one trip. This is very important to me because I play out twice a week and I live in a third floor apartment that's a bit of a walk out to where my car is.
- It was priced to sell --- $189 for the best sounding amp I've ever had
- It's weight is very low, key for my aforementioned 3rd floor situation

I looked at those but all the ADVT amps under 60 watts sounded muddy to me. As if the speaker just couldn't handle it. Bass notes were warbled and high notes sounded weak even with different guitars and on different settings. But the 60 watt and higher sounded awesome but were out of my price range. I even though that maybe if I replaced the speaker they would sound better but ultimately I'd rather not gamble on something like that.

Re: Why Did You Buy Your Amp?

it was $300 and was 80% off... i ended up really likeing it, i am one of the few who is set for amps. I have this one (Line 6 Flextone II HD) and an alamo 1x10 tube combo to warm it up

Re: Why Did You Buy Your Amp?

I got my Marshall cab because it was my uncle's and he sold it and a 100w NMV Marshall head to me for $500.

I got my Marshall because it sounded the best. I traded around a bunch of different Marshalls until I ended up with this one. It sounded the most "full" with bottom, mid and top as well as the gain it produces.

I got my Park because it was a Park. I wasn't all that thrilled with the sound until I had it all tuned up. Now it sounds really great.

I got my Falcon... more or less for the reverb. Although I rarely use the reverb- I still have it because it is a unique sounding amp.

I got my SWR head because it sounded awesome... It crushes, it doesn't weigh a whole lot, it has seperate volumes for 2 cabs in "stereo" mode.

I got my SWR cabs because they were a hella deal for the trade of my 1965 Esquire.

I got my SWR 2x15 cab because I loved the sound of my 15 from the other SWR cabs.

Re: Why Did You Buy Your Amp?

I bought my amp because it had "modern" tones. I dont use too much gain, but i like high gain amps because when i roll off the gain to get mytone, its very tight.

Re: Why Did You Buy Your Amp?

Quite simply, I bought my Bogner because I loved the versatility and massive tone shaping power of the fairly straightforward setup, and all of the sounds I get out of this amp nail the tones I hear in my head.

I bought my Marshall 2x12 cab because I got tired of hauling a 4x12 around when it wasn't necessary in 90% of the places I played, and it sounded just as good as the 4x12 I was using.
