  • Ernie Ball Vol Pedal - Random Sweep??

For years I've used a Ernie Ball Vol Pedal; its the 250k version. I've always had it patched at the end of my chain (between my ODs and Phase 90).

Never had any cause to complain - great pedal.

Recently I changed out the pot it became scratchly. Replaced it like for like.

Now, the pedals sweep seems to be.... random??

Tested at home, on its own, the pedal works great.
tested at home on my pedal board and 90% of the sweep was gathered in the LAST 10% of the pedal throw.
The tested at rehearsal on the board - sweep was fine
Test at home again on the board - sweep was fine
Tested at a gig on the board - 90% of the sweep was gathered in the FIRST 10% of the pedal throw. Almost like a switch rather than a pedal.

Dont understand this. It used to so realiable and now I cant anticipate the result.

I've tried playing with the taper switch but this only seems to have an affect using the pedal straight between guitar and amp.

Could it be different guitars/pot values which can cause this? I realise that Ernie Ball produce a 25K pedal/pot design for use in active paths, and which might resolve my issues, but what I dont uderstand is that I never used to have such issues with the old 250k pot.
