Re: What amp do I buy?

    So let's amend that to:

    Marshall JMP-1 pre-amp, Marshall EL84 20/20 power-amp and Marshall JCM900 1936 2x12"
    vs.
Blackstar HT Stage 60 combo (2X12")

    ???

P.S. How does the board think a 20/20 watt stereo will do for gigs?

In regards to cabs, both these seem good and surprisingly cheap, any opinions?

      Laney G212IE - 2x12" Celestion Seventy 80's
It seems to be only 71 cm in width, some heads may not stand right on it?
Is there any standard about that?

For the price, that is the way to go. Used GH50L, AOR50, old JCM800 or JCM900 50W + used 2x12" 1936 cab, they should be priced pretty low in the UK. In band/live situations, you won't have any volume problems with that rig. Add many sets of earplugs to the pack, too. You'll need your ears in the following decades

I've heard the JCM900 are inferior to JCM800 but have never had the chance to properly compare them, anyone know about this?

As far as the amps are concerned, the 800 is better regarded usually. As far as cabs are concerned, the 800 labeled one and the 900 labeled one will be exactly the same cab. The speakers might be different. Although I don't recall if they made the 1936 cab when they were using the G12-65 speakers...

Go with the JMP-1 and 20/20. The 20/20 will be plenty powerful enough for all but the biggest gigs.

I would for this also. It is versatile and flexible. As for gigging, it is going to be enough. Biggest gig tends to mic you and put you through the PA anyways.

Thomann has it for less. I've used a 1x12 for over a decade with no problem.

Hey, I'd just like to thank everyone for all their input and suggestions. Sadly I'm uncertain about the future of my current band due to University so I have decided to put this on hold and bought something cheap and loud instead (Marshall VS102R second-hand for £120).

Cheers anyway guys, has been a fun discussion.
