  • What do I need

I'm working on getting the money for an amp build, and I want opinions on what to do, I play clean rythym, jazz, and rock. I usually play every other week for arround 200 people. I'm going to do a blackface, I just need to know power/speaker layout

i would actually go 40W 2x12. You're going blackface so I assume you're gonna want to have some kind of clean sound reach the folk in the back.

If you went 80W, you might never get it to break up without killing the front row. You ever play a twin reverb on 3? it's nuts, way loud.

I'd go with lowest wattage possible and something like this:

80 watt with 2X12 should be sufficient. But as Fuse mentioned it will give you a lot of head room.

he could do that, use a tubescreamer, OCD, a big muff, a fuzz face, or a moded DS-1 and never look back

i use a boost and a compressor to get a little breakup occationaly, but i blend in a little tube compression

Perfect. That's just how I use mine. I play a 2x12" Hot Rod DeVille, which is a 60 watt 6L6 amp.

                  I voted 2x12" 80 watt.

The headroom is always good if you're playing what you described in the OP.

                    20w 1x12. plenty. for sure.
