It's inside of my new (actually it's old) bass amp 'Ashdown ABM 500'.
I cannot recognize the brand of the single tube in the preamp section. Can you?

It's an Ei 12AX7/ECC-83, made in the former Yugoslavia on licensed Philips equipment bought from the old Telefunken factory when it closed down. But don't let that fool you. Former Yugoslavian quality control was just as bad as the rest of the Eastern European tube manufacturers, with the possible exception of the St Petersburgh factory that produces what we now know as SED.

which sucks cause if you could find a good one, that factory was making some nice tubes. unfortunately a 50% fail rate is really unacceptable

those Ei tubes have a reputation of being either amazing or totally crap.

Yep, if it's a good one they're supposed to be awesome. If it's bad it will squeal like a pig. I've seen somewhere that the JJ ECC803 is similar, but I've never heard one of those that sounded good to me, so I have a hard time believing that.

the jjs are much more consistant but definitely have a certain sound which either you like, or you dont

Yeah, and that JJ sound is not for me!
