  • I like the 22 caliber

I was shocked really! I ran into my pod X3 into the 22 caliber then into a Celestion Gt12-75. I really thought it made the pod sound like a good amp. I turned the Cab simulation off. At some point another speaker cab will be in order for variety.

Is that the Boogie 22 Caliber? I had one of those for years and really liked it.

I think he means the new EHX 22-watt-amp-in-a-stompbox. I want to get one; with my Vox AmpPlug, it'll make a cheap backup amp that takes no space.

The .22 is one of my favourite amps!

Tho I suspect he's not talking about that here ...

i was gonna say.....the .22 caliber would sound even better without the pod!
Ive not heard about a .22 caliber stompbox before!

I have a Dual Caliber 50 watt boogie and the 22 caliber EHX as well. The Boogie will make the EHX cry like a little girl.

Still trying to figure out where/how the EHX works in my setup. RP-1000 -> 22 cal??? Might be worth a try...

The EH one my bad. By turning off the cab sim it sound like a great amp with the POD. The JCM 800 model played through it is as good as my JCM 800

Re: I like the 22 caliber

I'd like to try a couple of the Sans Amp character pedals (Blond, Liverpool, or Oxford) into a 22 Caliber. That would be cool - the whole rig could be on your pedalboard, plus a speaker cab.

This is the thing I'm talking about:

EHX's web page on the little beastie.

There's a more powerful 44 Magnum version, too.

I've read the .22 caliber gets dirty real quick once you start cranking it. So not really sure.

For more headroom, EHX has this:

24 volts? Dedicated power source, or two 12V inputs?
                      Epiphone LP Standard PlusTop Pro
                      Ibanez SZ320 / A8 DD103 bridge.
Ibanez RG270 / Screamin' Demon bridge.

                      Egnater Tweaker 15 Head / Laney Cub 8 / 2x12 - Celestion V30+K100
Line 6 M13 and plenty of stompboxes I rarely use!

For my use it is enough head room. you could gig and mike it. the 44 would be better for a gig though.
                        18 V one power supply.

After about 12:00 on the volume knob, the 22 starts breaking up. Cool if you intend to use dirt pedals, not cool if you were expecting a clean power amp for modeling purposes...

I was actually surprised to find the new PODHD stuff sounds pretty good with the discontinued Crate Power Block provided you bypass the amp's cab simulation by inserting the POD's output into RCA CD inputs of the Power Block.... Tons of clean headroom there.... You can get plenty loud if that's your thing.... I compared using the powerblock vs plugging the POD into into the return of my MESA Boogie Mark IV's effect loop and found the powerblock did a better job in delivering the tone heard through stereo headphones. Still not convinced it would be a good idea to try this live.... but I am tempted to bring this setup to the rehearsal studio one night and see what happens.
