  • Orange dark terror x H&K Tubemeister 18 - hard decision

    Hails Guys
    how are you all??
    Q: P
Im going to give myself a Christmas Gift and its either this Orange dark terror OR This H&K Tubemeister 18 - hard decision.

Problem IS : i Liked The Orange Dark Terror Tone. its my favorite tone , if not the perfect tone for me. it has that Brown sound but in a high gain way. perfect. but it doesnt have some features that ill need here in germany. since i live in a house that i share with the owner.. i cant play that loud. and i would be looking to record my stuffs soon also. and the orange doesnt have much options in regard of those external recording and playing options(i mean output for DY and etc ).It has NO Clean channel and only one channel. q: /

The Tubemesteiter 18 has all these options , and i already tried it(not with my guitars. gonna do it tomorrow). so i would be able (if i understand the specs corretly) to record and maybe using headphone to play with it.

its a question of : Tone X Features
    Q: /
its like choosing between two different women.
    MANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN What a Hard decision
    can anyone help me??
    Q: P
    JP
G.A.S Hails and thanks in advance

My advice would be to not rush into anything until you feel confident in your decision. Play both and possibly sleep on it for a while. Keep in mind that you could buy a Hughes and Kettner Redbox Classic to use with the Orange for recording. With that in mind, the only thing you'd be lacking is the 1 watt setting of the H&K. Perhaps you could find a good lower volume level with the Orange though, but then again, you might find the 1 watt setting of the H&K18 most useful for your living situation. Decisions decisions.....

      hey man
      thanks for the input.
that redbox advise thing really leaned me toward the orange.
but then theres the CLean channel issue.
if i want to play somewthing with clena channel and effects. ill have to stop the performance and go to the amp buttons to set it down.

You can buy the footswitch for the H&K... It's just optional for an additional charge. I actually think any standard 2 channel footswitch will work though.

Re: Orange dark terror x H&K Tubemeister 18 - hard decision

I play a single channel Marshall 800 as my main and basically only amp. I go from crystal clean to the brutZ all the time. If you love that dark terror (i know i do!), then you can do what I and Paul Gilbert do; use an eq with the level SET DOWN and adjust the sliders or knobs to push or pull which ever frequencies you want. This way, you simply step on an eq pedal for cleans. Now, if you are using slammin pickups you may need to go for a detox eq from HBE. Twilight Odessy uses a different pedal that does a similar job, the name just escapes me.
Political Correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

Oh, one other trick I do is set my overdrive and eq close so i can hit them at the same time if needed... Uber clean to uber chunk!

Two amps I was very, very interested in until I heard them.

I decided for the Orange Dark Terror. i played the HK today but it sounded a bit plastic. and not enough distortion.
