  • Gonna go with the C.Rex unless...

    ...I get a better suggestion.

I have a Traynor YCV40 that has a Celestion Seventy-Eighty speaker in it. At lower volumes, the amp sounds great, but when cranked up, the speaker gets a little flubby.

I've read quite a few suggestions and have listened to some sound samples, and I'm almost certain that I'm going to replace the Celestion with an Eminence Cannabis Rex.

Any strikes against a C. Rex?

^that was horrifying. Will my amp just spew out raptacular bull**** if I put the C. Rex in it? Is that what you're getting at? Maybe I better get a Jensen.

the modern jensens are not that good.

i have a crex and its a great sounding speaker. i use it in a deluxe reverb and love the way it sounds. balanced with a warm top end

Thanks, Jeremy. I'm going to order the C. Rex today. Gotta get some new 5881s, too...

^I'm going to put a fresh set of power tubes in, too. It's an older amp that I bought used. Has a rental place sticker on the back. My guess is that it has seen some action. Maybe that would help?

                Oh Man...!!!!!
You have NOT heard your amp yet, and those Traynor YCV models are nice sounding rigs.
I think you will hear a Big change in tone compared to that 70-80.
Make sure the tubes are good.......ENJOY.!
