  • New Score, Check It Out !!!!

Just traded my Crate GX-65 today ,for this Vintage 1989 Fender Stage 185 combo . It's in NM condition with absolutely no issues and it came with the 3 button fooswitch as well. It's probably the best score that I ever made.

awesome trade. the cleans on these amps are super nice. but the drive section is just ok if you spend alot of time learning the sculpting options. My dad had one for 15 years...and after running a Digitech RP-1 into it for years he saw no need to upgrade...

he sold it because it was so damn loud.

I use a Digitech RP-70 so I'm okay as far as the Gain is concerned. The clean on it though, is the best I've ever heard on any amp.

        I'd say that's a nice upgrade!

        Congrats.

My back hurts just looking at that pic....LOL. Those were some heavy beasts too. Really good cleans, not so great overdrive. The country players loved those amps when I used to sell them at a shop.

Thanks! I just got done playing both of my strats through it , without using my RP-70 and I have to say that the Gain on it isn't really that bad at all. Sure, it isn't for Metal bit if you're into stuff like Leppelin, Bad Company, AC/DC, etc, it 's what the Doctor ordered. It's rated at 150 watts and it's going nowhere . Definately a keeper.

You got the better end of the deal on that one.

The guy that I got it from, told me that the 1st imput had a short and that the channel selector wouldn't work , so I was willing to take a chance on it. I took it apart and blew some air on it to get the dust out after which I tightened up the imput jacks and sprayed some WD-40 in them as well. The same thing with the footswitch . After I did that, it was like it came right off the assembly line, it played just fine with no issues at all . If the previous owner had bothered to take care of it , I'm sure he probably wouldn't had let it go. Well that's what he gets for being a dumbass . His loss, my gain !

I love it! Especially the way it looks like the old red knob Evil Twin!

I was finally able to play it for a few hours yesterday and the clean on it, is the best I've ever heard in over 37 years of playing . The Gain though, is more suited for Blues and some Classic Rock ,definately not for Metal. I did contact Fender yesterday and they were gracious enough to email me a PDF of the manual . I ended up going through the manual just now and I was able to come up with a great sounding Metal tone on this amp. It's now definately a keeper . Screw Crate, Fender rocks !

Just add a dirt pedal in front.

                            Absolutely.
