  • Anyone tried this: mixing guitar and full-range speakers

Did anybody try this? Is it doable?

I really don't like having cabinets around. Too bulky.

So I wanted to unify the cabinets I use like this:
    • Two separate 1x 12 cabinets
    • EV 12L
    • tweeter and frequency crossover that can be turned off for "guitar mode" and on for keyboard or vocals
    • bass reflex hole that can be closed
    • Maybe removable back although that's probably not a good idea for 12Ls
    • The two cabinets can be tacked together with flightcase fitting or whatever to have a 2x12 guitar cabinet

Is there a remote chance that this comes out well?

Well a EV 12L is a respected guitar speaker and I would construct the cabinet from plywood and with more reinforcements than a cheap keyboard amp.

Plus of course I would use an actual guitar head.

Is the EV any good for Hi-Fi? That's the biggest question. Next is the build. You can't just shove a woofer and horn in a box and expect it will work out well. So how much do you know about building Hi-Fi speakers?

Why is a single 1x12 guitar cab and a single PA cab not an option?

Sounds like a recipe for half-assed results in either mode. If you don't like having cabs around, go with full range speakers and get something like a Palmer or Torpedo speaker sim.

I have a palmer. Can't think it's better to first cut of treble and then go into a tweetered cab
