  • I gotta admit...

    My rig sounds dang good!!!

I'm running a Line6 Pod HD 300 into the power amp of a Fender Frontman 65R.
    I only need 4 channels:
    A. Fender twin set clean
    B. Fender deluxe slightly dirty with classic distortion on (my bluesy channel)
    C. Mesa dual recto, gain about 9:00. My semi heavy channel
    D. Mesa dual recto, gain about 2-3:00. My heavy channel. This one really puts a smile on my face.

All channels running full amp models, in live mode. Power amp on combo is really transparent. Cab is open back, may convert that to 3/4 back. Haven't decided that yet. Speaker is stock. Guitar is PRS SE Singlecut Korina with Crazy 8 and 59 pickups.

Sorry, no clips. I'm not set up to record now that we are living at the in-laws. Just wanted to share.

Very similar to my old rig - a Boss GT6 into the old Princeton 65. It always did what I wanted it to! I've been really trying to avoid trying out the HD series and the new GT100.

Mine is pretty damm good itself. A late 1990's USA made, Peavey Transtube 112 Bandit with a Digitech RP-70 effects processor. I only use 6 settings on it.

      1. Marshall 77 Master Volume W/ some Flange and the gain all the way on 9
      2. 65 Fender Blackface with the setting on 3 and some Boss Dual Chorus at 2
      3. Acoustic w/ some Chorus
      4. Same as 2
      5. Digitech Metal on 6 w/ some Flange
      6. Same as 3

I have it like this because I play both Classic Hard Rock & 80's Metal

        Re: I gotta admit...

Are you running the Line 6 inline or into an effects loop?

Congrats on getting your rig together. Wish I were there.

Guitar -> pod hd -> homemade volume box -> power amp of frontman.

          Amp's preamp is completely bypassed.

Digital modeling is getting better all the time. I don't care to deal with the issues of tube amps or pedalboards any more.

I'm sure the tube mafia will show up sometime. But the real test is does anyone listening care?

              Rock them out boys!

This Princeton thing is interesting. What do you think makes it such a great platform for the models? VS say a Tech 21 Power Engine or an Atomic powered cab?

I have often though of Boss GT-8/10/etc into Power Engine.

The Princeton 65 is real similar to the Frontman 65. I think the only difference is the mid scoop on the gain channel.

And before the tube mafia shows up, I will say that I never intend to sound like anyone but myself. I don't need it to sound exactly like a fender/mesa/whatever. I just need it to work for me. And that, it does well.

I've yet to tame my HD300. Mine didnt have a manual in the box so I'm still learning how to set it up well. Have you found anywhere online that keeps a repository of settings? I've really only cycled through the presets.

There's one maintained on the L6 web site.
