  • Is it bad? Mini Recto question...

Both of my 2x12 cabs are 16ohms.

Is it bad to run both cabs from the Mini Recto's 4ohm and 8ohm outputs at the same time?

How will that affect the overall sound?

    Thanks,
If I know I'm going crazy, I must not be insane.

Can't you daisy chain the two cabs into the 8 ohm output? Two 16's in parallel will give you 8.

Ratherdashing is correct. You definitely do not want to run a 16 ohm cab off a 4 ohm winding, and even the 8 ish still a mismatch so it won't sound as good. Run them both in parallel into the 8 ohm plug.

My cabs are not set up to do this...

...any recommendations on how this can be done?

Both cabs only have only a single input.

That's not what he needs at all. The cab bone is for switching between two different cabs, he just wants to run two at once. All you need is a 1/4 " Y cable made with speaker wire, you could make one yourself easily and I'm sure someone sells them.

MB actually says this in their owners manual:

You need a parallel box to plug the two cabs in and then into the 8 ohm jack (#7 diagram, page 27).

you can build a parallel box for less than 5 bucks and a half hour with a soldering iron

just be careful to get the polarity correct .. and if you don't, just swap the wires til you do

you'll need three 1/4" female jacks (jills?) and a little project box ... plug the output of the head to one jack marked 'input' .. inside the box, wires the tip of the 'input' jack to each of the tips of both the other jacks (marked 'output one' and 'output two') ... wires the input's sleeve to the sleeves of the output jacks ... hook up the 16 ohm cabs to the 'output' jacks and the 8 ohm output of the head to the 'input' jack

The "y" cable and parallel box are the same...they split one jack into two (same signal to both).

                      Make sure it's a 2 mono to 1 mono Y though, not a 2 mono to 1 stereo.

                        Who makes a 16 ohm 212 cab?

Series 8 ohms or parallel 32 ohms?

                        I'm confused...

Sure as shoot, two 8 ohm speakers wired in series.

you might try a swap with someone that had 4 16 ohm speakers but wanted an 8 ohm 412.

You can make a Y cable easy enough, speaker wire isn't sheilded so you can get the leads through the barrel of a 1/4" jack.
