  • Amp HELP!!!

    I have a 2x12, both 16 ohm speakers.

Is this the correct way to hook them up?

I believe that is a parallel connection. I set my amp to 8ohms, just want to make sure I'm not overloading my transformer.

      thank you!

I was beginning to worry because my power tubes get SUPER hot within a minute or so. can't even touch them

I don't know if thats normal or not...

In like 2 minutes the power tubes get ridiculously hot...I can probably cook bacon over them. Would having the amp bias'd fix that?

Tubes are supposed to be hot. Based on your description, yours might be running too hot though. Emphasis on might.

Couldn't hurt to get them properly biased.

Unless the plates are actually turning red dont worry about it. Make sure its the plates not the filaments though the filaments glowing is completely normal. Just going off temperature and saying "Damn those are hot" is a really bad way to diagnose the bias of an amp.

What amp is it, most cathode biased amps based of the vox power amp run very hot so much that some tubes just don't last that long in there. A lot of amps are biased fairly warm as well. Some not so much.

^^ Red plating? What amp ? Guitar amps are pushed beyond tube ratings for a reason. DISTORTION. I bias most amps where the sine wave just stops clipping..

With your 16 ohm speakers hooked up that way (parallel) you are getting a total impedence of 8 ohms. Is your amp output set to 8 ohms?
