  • Engl 50 thunder combo

Does anybody knows how it compares to a Fender, a Marshall or any other amp?

I have this Engl combo and i really like it but I am curious how it differs or relates to other amps...

NO, it's not really comparable to either one of those.
The Engl is tighter and more focused than a Marshall, with higher gain. It's not as dark sounding as a Mesa.
Engl's are great for power metal, imo.
The clean channel is very present, tho, and very nice. I would say that the Engl's clean is what a Marshall should be. As for a Fender, I would say that it's not really close. The Engl has more shimmer and greater "attack".
Why don't you take your little Cobra Kais and get outta here?!

i'm considering to buy a thunder too.

does it fit blues/bluesrock? i like it clean or slightly overdriven
      with lots of meat.

      what do you think?

hmm, is nobody else owning such a baby?

can it be beaten in terms of quality and power/size ratio?

I think you'd be closer if you tried comparing ENGL amps to the Bogners, Diezels and others like that

I think for the norminal price difference I'd go with the Screamer 50 myself. I really LOVE the S50 combo. It would give you a lot more amp for the $ IMO. To be fair, I have never tried a Thunder 50 but the clips of it sound very good. You can get Fender-ish tones with ENGL. Check out Marinblues... he used a Screamer 50 and get's some great clean and blues tone. Overall, I am big fan of ENGL stuff and wish I could spend more time with the stuff.

Still think the Thunder is their true gem of an amp

I just got my Screamer 50 head in yesterday and tried it out last night on a Mesa cab. It's amazing. I can't speak about the Thunder though, never tried it.
