  • Alamo Model 3... vintage combo badness in action!

I have been studying some of these great little amps for a while.
The Alamo Model 3 definitely has its charm.
Lots of sonic goodness coming from that little guy.
(This is not my youtube, by the way.):

This is my wonderful 1950 Alamo amp model 3. Circuit is very similar to tweed princetons. 5w with a 10" Alnico 5 speaker. 6v6 power - 5y3 rectifier - and 6sj...

They were made in San Antonio, Ive had half a dozen, from the small to the top of the line. That one is probably one of the the most desirable, being its one with the early wood cabinets. They a are poor mans Fender, with cheaper componentsn and based off the Fender schematics. To be honest, yeah, they are groovy lil blues amps, and the higher end ones sound nice ( I had a 2x 6l6 Alamo embassy head), but a Fender just blows them away..no contest.
They sound much better recorded like on that clip then they do in real life. I just didnt want you to go thinking that what you had was all that and a bag of patato chips, but cool amp.
