  • Reading cabinet ohms

So my geeky friends what is the best way to take an ohm reading on a cab?

    Re: Reading cabinet ohms

plug speaker cable into cabinet, use multimeter to read the tip and ring of the other end of the cable.

Mind you, the speaker impedance is AC. Most multimeters will measure DC resistance, but not all will measure AC. Generally the DC resistance of the speakers will read a few ohms less than the rated AC impedance. For example, 8 ohms AC will probably read around 6 ohms DC, and 16 ohms AC will probably read around 12 ohms DC. It will be most accurate/safe/ideal if you are able to measure the AC impedance.

Yes it is.....though technically it will be the tip and sleeve...but yes.
Pressing Real hard with both hands on the probes can throw your body into the mix.
If you lay the cable end on a hard/flat surface, and then press down with each probe, keeping your skin off the metals (if you get what I am saying) you will get a "better" reading.
Are you unsure about what your cab is, or just curious.?
