  • speaker system for vocals

I need to get some help from you guys. I am currently trying to put together a jam band for fun and I need to find a cheap speaker system for vocals. I really do not want to get a full blown pa system but just something to be able to hang with the amps and drums so I don't have to scream my guts out. I have seen a few powered monitor speakers that have XLR connections and that would be something I would be very interested in. have any of you had any experience with something like this? thanks for in advice you can give.

Maybe a Roland Street Cube. I believe it has a microphone preamp setting.

OP.....yes, a "Powered Speaker" is probably the answer for you.
Anybody who makes PA or "keyboard amps" or "acoustic amps" is worth looking at:
      Carvin
      Yamaha
      Peavey
      Fender
      Behringer
      Mackie
      whoever
      good luck

a second hand JBL EON self powered speaker will do the job for you. Light, portable and not too much dough. They were all the rage not too long ago, but have fallen off the radar since the introduction of the QSC.

            What is the budget?

What do you mean when you say, "full-blown PA system"?

What will you use the PA for...vocals only, acoustic instruments? Or are you planning to run bass, guitar and keys into it?

Is this for your rec room, or do you plan to do coffee house or bar gigs?

            Bill
When you've had budget guitars for a number of years, you may find that your old instrument is holding you back. A quality guitar can inspire you to write great songs, improve your understanding of the Gdim chord while in the Lydian Mode, cure the heartbreak of cystic acne--and help you find true love in the process.

Sounds like he wants an "affordable" powered monitor.......

                Re: speaker system for vocals

I would like to stay under 150.00 if I can, but not more then 200.00, as far as where and how it will be used it will be used in my rec room for vocals only. right now I am not looking for a serious gigging situation. I have a small child with special needs and I do not have the time to gig out and all of the other guys that will be involved also have to much going on to gig out, so it just will be a couple times a month to scratch the itch of playing with other musicians. hope this helps

I have found over the years trying to go cheap on the vocals just doesn't work. Especially with a full band. You are going to need something with the power to "cleanly" lift the vocals above the drums, guitar and bass. The good news is PA systems are very portable and inexpensive these days. Don't drive a nail with a wrench get the right tool for the job. For $ 200.00 you can get a decent PA on Craigslist, I just sold a Peavey PA 100 for $100.

This is not the best but it will get the job done

I got my Carvin Powered Speakers from a guy at work who was stopping gigging all together
sold all his musical equipment to me
he has since changed his mind and bought a portion of it back

                      but the point is
the Carvins have a three band eq
plenty of power at 400 watts
multiple inputs (RCA, 1/4", and XLR)
you can select one, two or all three to be active at the same time
it also has a line out where you can daisy chain several together

these are $250-$300 new, bout half that used on GC used

Kustom sells powered monitors for between $100-150 new
                      probably suck though
buy one and let us know
