On these specific amps, the standby switch wasn't thought out too well. When you flick the switch from standby to on, there's a very brief surge of current that will blow through a rectifier tube pretty quickly if you treat it like any other amp. Also (on this specific amp), the tubes are heated enough by the time the rectifier tube is fully heated, so neglecting the standby won't adversely affect tube life. This is just the AC30 reissues with a tube rectifier. Use the standby switch on most other amps or if the AC30 has a solid state rectifier.
