I bought an Weber Alncio 12" speaker a couple of years ago and used it here and there but could never gel with it. I knew that it's supposed to have a great vintage crunch/compression especially with low wattage amps (mine is rated at 15W); I figured it would be a no brainer using one of my small wattage amps wound all the way up.
But I could never find a cabinet/microphone combination that I really liked until today. I was bound and determined to use the Weber on some reamp tracks I was recording today and I stumbled across a combination that worked great after doing some research online.
The amp was my EAST Studio 2 turned up ... about 75% of the way; well into power stage compression but there was still a touch of headroom left. This I crushed using a Hartman Tommy Bolin fuzz, Naga Viper, or Thundertomate Boost, as well as the strymon DECO.
Cabinet is an Epiphone semi-closed 1x12.
The ideal microphone turned out to be a ribbon mic; I used a Cascade Fat Head II.
I ended up using that combination on all of the electric guitar tracks, it sounded positively huge.
Below is the song I did the reamping for, it's not a final mix or anything just the raw tracks panned and leveled out.
