  • Traynor YBA1-A output reduction

I just bought a 1972 traynor YBA1-A head with a speaker cabinet consisting of one 15" Vega speaker and a Cobreflex horn. I love this amp, and it was far too good a deal to pass up. My only problem is the sound level. This thing is really loud!! Are there any simple ways to bring the volume down without effecting the tone too much. I was thinking that maybe a volume control on the speaker would be a nice simple way to cut the level a bit. I think I could manage that on my own. Has anyone had any experience with this? If so any and all suggestions are welcome - thanks

Get a Weber Mass or other attenuator, which is sort of what you are describing as a volume control. I have 4 traynors from 68 to 72 and absolutey love em. They are Who concert loud and I consider an attenuator a must. www.webervst.com I have the Mass 100 and it sounds great.

Yeah but with about 90 watts of output. Mine is a beast, very similiar to a 100 watt Superlead in terms of roar.

Thanks, I'm already checking E Bay. I still can't believe what these old Traynors are going for. I was looking at a new Traynor 20 watt at around 5 - 600.00. Instead I got this YBA 1 A plus the speaker cabinet for under 400.00. Thanks again!!

Kinda of absurd ain't it? I too am amazed at the tone for dollar return.

I have no advice, just wanted to say that I use to own two of those YBA-1 heads in the early '70's during my bass playing days. Those are great amps. Like they say "if I knew then what I know now" they would still be in my possesion. Bought them new for $150.00 each back then!!

150.00 each, cheaper now than they were then when you factor in inflation lol. I got 2 of mine for under 250.00 and the two others I traded for.Couple cap changes and there is serious wow with those amps.
