  • Marshall + Mesa EQ, John Sykes and Michael Nielsen

Michael Nielsen has to be one of my favorite content creators on Youtube. He’s done Big Hairy Guitars for a few years but this year he’s ramped up the content due to being locked down so often.

They are all fun, but this is cool. A Mesa EQ in loop of a JCM800, add in a little effects in post and some John Sykes inspiration.

    Oh no.....

    Oh Yeah!

If you need an EQ in the loop of an 800 you're doing it wrong.

Real JCM800s don't have an effects loop.

AFTER the band got famous....like Acatrazz, like Roth, like Whitesnake. If he could only make a band famous on his own. But the kid can learn other great player's licks really good!

I don't understand how the loop in an 800 would drastically change the amp?

A loop in an 800 means it's a reissue, not an original, and the reissues sound pretty different than the original vertical-input circuits. The reissues have a different midrange and are less saturated in the preamp.

I have a 2203 with an effects loop. granted I had it added.

Most of Sykes Marshalls were modded by Jose Arredondo and had loops and remote standbys and whatever the owner wanted early to mid 80's when that wasn't available.
Sykes also played a variety of Mesa MK amps thru 4x12's full of Celestion G12-65's.
                            Nielsen is a studio guy.
He should drop the EQ and power station and crank that 800 to "6".

In other words, not an original JCM800.
