I tried the original Katana head and I wasn't terribly impressed. The main problem was the top mount controls, and the power amp didn't really do anything special; it sounded like a versatile solid state amp.
The new Artist differs from the original because it has a Class AB amp, instead of Class D. And now the controls are front mount. Has anyone played both versions of the amp and have an opinion on the improvements?
I suspect the Artist combo gets a large improvement from the better speaker, but I'm wondering about the head version. It would be a perfect grab and go amp if the sound quality is there. I am a big fan of Boss pedals, but I didn't think the first version did anything other than deliver "passable" tones. It was grainy and mid-heavy.
