  • Crate Blue Voodoo question for the amp techs.

I'm working on replacing the input and output jacks on my Crate BV60H amp, and I noticed something weird. At least to me. The output jack shorts out the output transformer when no speaker is plugged in. This seems odd. If you accidently power it up, with no load, I would think it would be better to have it "open", for a moment, rather than shorted. Then again, maybe not.

I'd appreciate your thoughts on this before I order the new jack. I don't really want to 2nd-guess the engineers, but it just seems odd.

P.S. (I can't edit above.) The output jack shorting bar is toasted. Seems like a bad idea.

Found the answer. The shorting contact is important. I won't re-engineer it.

I'll take myself out after I fix it. The number of knobs, nuts, screws, and wires, you have to remove to get to the input and output jacks are formidable.
