  • A preamp tube isnt glowing???

My ENGL just stopped making any noise at all and ive had a closer look and the last preamp tube isnt glowing at all...im not sure what number it is but its not V1...the last preamp tube...would this stop all noise from coming out of the amp?

Might try changing it in the meantime...but would this make sense?

Yeah, it's probably the phase inverter tube. Don't run the amp at all.
Use a tube from another amp, till you have the chance to buy another.
You may want to replace all of them, and use the old ones as spares.

yeah i just replaced the phase inverter with an older GT tube which is one of my spares from when i retubed that whole amp a while ago...and it works.

I did however try out just out of curiosity a chinese 12ax7 in V1 because i heard it might go well in my ENGL and give it a bit more sparkle and i really loved it! Trouble is it got all microphonic and was hissing and stuff so i put back my JJ for now...but im gonna try and get some different 12ax7's and maybe just retube it with ENGL tubes soon when i get the cash.
