  • What's better than a Plexi or Jubilee?

Yup, that's right. I want to hear some BLASPHEMY.

Frankly, I don't care what ANYONE on here says - there is nothing more harmonically rich for rock than an old Marshall - many of us know this personally.

I haven't heard a Jube in a while - but they have always been sick, and I am a huge JCM fan as well.

So what NEW amp knocks these out of the park?

    Splawn? ENGL? BOGNER? tell me.

    BLASPHEME people!

And if you say a Dual Rec or 5150, you need to just delete yourself from this thread. I am talking classic tones - no nu-metal in this one.

There's only one thing better than a plexi or a jube....TWO plexi's or TWO jubes

I do not know why they do not reissue the silver jubilee amps. Id buy! Maybe because they are not going for enough money on ebay...

A jubilee and a Plexi that I've tweaked? Well, that's better for me anyway. Unlike the Jubilees, the Plexis varied quite a lot from 66-69, I like to mod mine to something similar to an early 68 plexi.

I'd like to get me hands on a Marshall Plexi some day. A 50 watter tough.

              I'll agree with that.

For me personally tho, the metalfaces and JMP 2203/4s are "better" than a Plexi or Jubilee. In fact although I think a jube is a great sounding amp, I think it's a little overhyped.

I won't say they are better...but for new amps, I really like the MESA Stiletto & VHT Deliverance. Splawns are nice too though a bit too "tight" for me personally.

I think I'd just as soon bring a 1987x to David Bray than buy anything if I had my druthers

And don't think 5150s (or recs for that matter) are nu-metal only...with the right speakers you can get sounds out of a 5150 like this or even with just some EQ tweaks on the combo, this

I'd say those are pretty classic

If I am correct, I have a DVD of Pearl Jam and Mike used his Marshall Plexi for Evenflow. If that was a Plexi, and I do know he uses pedals, then that was some of the best tone iI have ever heard.

Tonally, Splawns and Jubilees are in the same category, and tone for tone, I'd say the Splawn probably wins, although it goes down in price while the Jubilees go up in price.

As far as beating a Plexi....the only ones I've heard that do that are Plexi's that have been rebuilt and modded by a guru. Or, Blockhead, Wizard, Mojave, Komet etc. Some of those builders could wire a plexi in their sleep, so when they make their improvements, you end up with a brand new Plexi that may have more gain, deeper lows, and a master volume.

I love the Plexi mode on my Ecstasy because you can assign either the red or blue channel to plexi, and it strips out all the circuitry, removes the switches from the signal flow, and leaves you with a plexi + gain control. I've gotten spoiled, being able to get a great plexi tone without turning up an old non-mastervolume amp to 7.
