Originally posted by alecleeActually, the Dumble that SRV used was a Steel String Singer, not an Overdrive Special. Based on a quick read of the manual, I'd say it's that the Boutique clean is based on the SSS.Peavey Wolfgang(USA) EBMM pickups

Re: boutique models on vox
Actually Stevie used both of the above mentioned Dumble amps...the first one was a borrowed Overdrive Special (borrowed from Jackson Browne) then he bought a SSS for himself.
As for never trying a Dumble it's pretty tough...they are hard to come by and cost more than a decent car! I got the chance to play through an Overdrive Special some years back at a guitar show and I have to be honest I was far less than impressed...so me guys really like those amps but I didn't care for it at all really. If you just read a post by The Guy Who Invented Fire please understand that opinions change, mind sets change and as players our ears mature...not to mention our needs grow and change. With that in mind, today I may or may not agree with the post you just read!

To my knowledge, the best place to try out a Dumble is Ultrasound Studios in NYC. They have a few including one that's reputed to be the reference amp for a number of Dumble clones. They're not for sale but are made available for comparison with other amps that they do sell.Last edited by aleclee; 04-01-2006, 08:42 AM.Originally posted by LesStratmake sure that you own the gear, not vice versa.

Good point!
It wasn't a bad amp perse but I just felt like for the price being asked it could have been a good bit better, I also feel like I have played through and owned lots of amps that were as good if not better than cost far less.If you just read a post by The Guy Who Invented Fire please understand that opinions change, mind sets change and as players our ears mature...not to mention our needs grow and change.
