  • AMP GURUS: 180ohm 10W 10%Cement ???? Resistors?

Anyone know where I can find some of these resistors? Or equivelent?

They're rectangle shaped, about 1.5" long, and have a white cement type substance packed along the top.

I'm trying to fix up my buddy's Ampeg, and need to replace these. It seems this thing is so old, the cement has dried out and is crumbling, causing powdery debris inside of the chassis.

I've looked, and cannot locate any of these anywhere.

    Any ideas?

    its a cement power resistor.
    here's a link:

      those show 5w 5% resistors, not 10w 10%.

Or are these being suggested as an alternative that will work?

EDIT: Does the actual % (cement) make any difference in reliability? They do have 10w 5%, but I'll be damned if I can find 10w 10%.

      Thanks for the reply.

5% is better than 10%. The % spec is the tolerance - how close to the nominal 180 ohm value it's likely to be. Resistor manufacturing is better these days, so they can crank out 5% tolerance no problem.

The most important spec is the resistance (ohms) - it needs to be the same as what you're replacing. Less important is the power rating (watts) - the new part has to be equal or higher to make sure it doesn't burn up.

        Go for the 10W 5%.

changed the link. its now 180 ohms, 10W 5% tolerance. 5% is better than 10%. it should work.
