  • P Bass Pickup to go with QP ?

    Hello folks!

I know we don't have the biggest bass population here but here we go:

I have a BC Rich Eagle (REB-2) that is a 2 P Bass Pickup setup. I currently have a QP (SPB-3) in the neck and a tone Emporium Vintage in the bridge (what I had lying around when I pulled the EMG's). The vintage pickup is just way too weak to combine well with the Quarter Pounder, so I am looking for something to better match when both on. Control setup is V (Neck) - Switch - V (Bridge) - Master Tone.

Of course the obvious answer is another SPB-3, but throwing a feeler out there. I play lots of stuff on it but it will be mainly for 80's metal type sounds. Think Duff / Rachel Bolan type tones.

    Thanks!

Since the SPB-3 is in your neck, it's LOUD. Probably the only thing we have is another SPB-3 to keep up. Unless you consider putting the SPB-3 in the bridge. Then you can experiment with something like a Steve Harris in the neck. (slightly hotter than vintage) Or even hotter would be an SPB-2 (Hot for P bass)

Yeah, switch the QP to the bridge, put a Steve Harris in the neck. That sounds like a killer setup.

I like Boomer's suggestion with an SPB-3 in the bridge, and Steve Harris in the neck...wow! All rock basses should now come with this combo- I decree it!

            Thanks everyone!

I do love the tone of the SPB-3 in the neck...which is why I really had no reason to move it. but I will try your suggestions once I pick up a Steve Harris! The pickup in there now is simply too weak to match anyway...and because I just spent hours shielding and re-wiring the whole thing so I'm feeling lazy toward it haha

Wait a few days, and dive back in. I'd love to hear the results.

Best thing I ever did was to replace a QP with an EMG geezer set.

Funny you should say that, I ripped EMG's out of this awhile ago (mind you not the GB ones)

Planning on getting a Steve Harris down the road. Probably be quite a while before that though

The Dimarzio Model P is the best I've used. It would have no problem hanging with a QP.

Discontinued old Duncan Pbass Actives w/ EQ rockers.

                      Walks all over EMG.
